If you have an interest in fishing, there are many different types of rods on the market. Buying them can be overwhelming as you look at rows and rows of rods. But it’s important to remember that there are a few things that need to be taken into consideration before putting money on a rod.

The first two things that you need to consider are what type of fishing will you be doing with the rod and how experienced are you? If this is going to be one of your first few times out fishing, you will probably want to choose a model that is specifically designed for beginners. Choose one that is easy to use, which is generally a spinning rod because they are easiest to use.

You also want to consider what poundage you need your rod to be able to handle. This is when the type of fishing you will be doing comes into consideration. If you’re looking to catch pike or salmon, you’ll need something that can handle bigger fish. Whereas if you’re going to be fishing for trout, it will be best to look for a rod that is a little bit lighter and easier to handle. For smaller fish, you can also choose a smaller rod, about 4 ½ to 6 feet will work well. For larger fish and bait, you will most likely need a rod that is longer than 6 feet long to provide a larger capacity and give you more length for casting.

Whichever type of rod you choose, you want to make sure that it fits comfortably in your hand. This might seem like a small factor but it can make all the difference when you have spent the day fishing. You want to make sure that it has a comfortable grip and that it fits in your hand nicely. And lastly, you want to test how flexible the rod is. To do this, simply make a casting motion with the rod and watch how easily the end moves.

If you’re trolling the market for a fishing boat, you already know it’s a big investment. The last thing you want is to be all washed up in a holey mess because you bought a poor quality boat.

Fishing boats come in all sizes, from small motorboats for inland lake fishing, to small whalers, to yachts designed for cruising the deep seas. If you want to prove yourself as a hardcore fisherman, or fisherwoman, one of the best ways is by investing in a fishing boat. Be sure before you buy, and make the right investment in your new vessel.

Owning a boat can be great fun, but there are hidden costs to consider before you buy. Basic upkeep fees can net a lot of cash. You need to keep your boat clean and fueled. Unless you have your own marina or garage, you’ll have to pay for parking and storage. Dry-docking your boat during the off-season will cost more than a nominal fee. Even if you plan to moor the boat under a tarp in the backyard, there is the transportation to consider. The boat will have to be towed home in the winter, and back to the water in spring. To do it yourself you’ll need a pickup truck or van, a boat trailer, or a really good buddy who has both.

If you’ve decided that your budget allows, you can start comparing fishing boats. Shop around and research your options well, before making your final decision. It seems there are as many makes and models of fishing boats on the market as there are cars and SUVs, so you’ll be up to your neck in options. With so much to choose from, you should be able to find the boat to suit your needs perfectly.

Bass Pro Shops is one brand-name boat model that offers good quality at a decent price. The famous angling supply store introduced their first “fish ready” Tracker boat way back in 1978. Since then, they’ve mastered the design and technology of boats, rigging all of them as if they’re meant for pros. Bass Pro Shops boats come packaged with a motor and a trailer. Marine gear packages are optional.

Charger boats are another big name in crafts known for their performance and quality. Like Bass Pro Shops, Charger boats are built by a no-nonsense company that believes in providing effective and innovative fishing boats.

Spend money on a poor quality boat, and you can find yourself waist-deep in problems. Fishing boats are a big investment, but if you shop around and buy the right one, it will be nothing but smooth sailing ahead.

I love night fishing. Most of the times it’s because I don’t get to go out and fish during the day because of my work, but now there’s more to it than just the convenience. I’ve observed that night fishing offers you the same conditions as daytime, but with generally better results. Sometimes I can swear the fishing conditions are even better during the night, since there are fewer anglers to compete with for a good fishing spot, and less noise as well.

I’ve also come to realize that when you find a good fishing spot during the day, coming back to it at night will net you even more fish. Although I can’t explain why, but the fish just seem to bite more at night. One little drawback though is that it’s harder to see your line, but since you’re getting a lot of fish, it’s worth the effort. For this reason, perhaps, I’ve seen a lot of daytime fishermen turn to night fishing. When I asked one why, he just said it makes him look good because he catches more fish that way!

If you want to try night fishing, I say full speed ahead! But make sure that the weather forecast for that night is good. It’s going to be difficult enough moving about and finding things in the dark; when you go out night fishing during bad weather, it just makes it worse and more dangerous. I know this sounds elementary, but you’d be surprised at the number of anglers who forget this very simple rule.

Here’s one tip to make your night fishing even better: Watch the moon! You might be thinking it sounds a bit crazy, but try it and see for yourself. You’ll be surprised at the things you might learn. One thing you’re most likely to notice is that most fish hide in the shadows during a full moon. I can’t tell you why because I don’t know myself, but that’s what I and my night fishing friends have observed, anyway. So now when you find some shadows on the water, you’ll know where to cast your line.

If there are no shadows and the moon isn’t shining down on the water, it will make your task of finding the fish a bit harder, but that doesn’t mean you’re out of luck and have to return another evening. The fish seems more likely to bite anytime it’s not a full moon or if it’s partially hidden by clouds. So now you’ll know how to determine which fishing spot will be more likely to get you better results. If the moon is shining full and bright, go for the shadows in the water. If it’s hidden or even nowhere to be seen, just go to your favorite fishing spot and expect lots of hits on the line.

I’ve heard a lot of anglers say that they only fish during a full moon, while others say that no moon is the best time for night fishing. What I’d recommend to you is to go out into the night and try both. You will get good results, whether it’s a full moon or night. All you have to remember is to adjust your fishing technique and change your fishing spots, depending on how much the moon is shining during the night.

Fishing is considered a favorite past time among Americans. A majority of Americans have had the ultimate fishing experience. Fishing is the activity of catching species that live and breathe underwater.

Today more advanced fishing techniques were developed to make the activity more exciting and challenging. Before 2005, all fishermen had to do was hit a macro to catch a fish. Today there is a more developed fishing system; it involves fighting a fish to reel it in.

A simple fishing guide would make understanding fishing easier. There are five steps to follow for beginners. Start out by preparing your rod and reel. The reel has to have a line then press the button of your spin-cast reel. Make sure that enough line is pulled to thread it through all of the guides of the rod.

In the second step of the fishing guide it is important to attach a hook. One thing about hooks is that they come in different shapes and sizes. An acceptable size to use is #6 or #8. A clinch should be used to tie the hook to the line.

The third step of the fishing guide involves attaching a bobber by threading the line to the top and bottom hooks. The purpose is to attach the bobber so the fish hook hangs just above the structure.

Attaching the bait is the next step. Attach the bait to the hook using either worm rig method, worm rig for bait stealers method or doughball method.

The final step in the fishing process is to cast and retrieve. First cast the bait, then turn the reel crank forward until it clicks to prevent more line from coming out. You know you are catching a fish when the bobber moves or when you feel a tug on the line. Make sure the hook is in the fish’s mouth. If more detailed instructions are needed there are numerous fishing guides on the web or in books.

One guideline is very important before going fishing. Check the fishing regulations to see if the fish you catch according to size is legal to keep. If it is a fish that is not legal to keep, it must be released and handled as little as possible.

If this is a fish that can be kept a good way to keep it alive is to place it in a cooler until it is ready to be cleaned. So if your purpose is fish as hobby and use the catch and release method, fishing regulations do not need to be considered. Fishing is mostly done for recreational purposes, such as fishing tournaments or hobby but some actually catch fish that they plan to cook with. Whatever the reason your reason for fishing is it blends well with the American way of life. Remember to take along your fishing guide!

Fishing is a relaxing hobby and even more fun to do when done with members of the family and loved ones during a short vacation or even over the weekends. It may seem not a very physical sport for most people, but similar to any other outdoor activities, fishing still requires safety. Nobody should ever compromise safety.

Primarily, before going out fishing, make sure that your outfit is just right for the activity. The weather should always be put in to account because you can never tell if the sun is going to be too hot or just right all day long. A sunny day may turn cloudy or even rainy so, it’s advisable to always bring an extra something along. If it’s the rainy season, always bring anything that can protect you from getting chilled.

In terms of handling your fishing equipment, extra precaution should always be observed. There have been too many accidents that happened in casting a fishing line. Either the one who casts the line gets into trouble or he gets someone in trouble. Check who or what’s behind you first before casting your line with confidence in the water. Don’t be too sure that there’s nothing behind you (e.i power line or a tree).

In placing your fishing rod on the ground, still do it carefully. Be sure you don’t let someone else step on it as it is going to cause an accident. Keep an eye to where you leave your fishing equipment. In the event of removing a hook from the fish (if it becomes difficult to remove), don’t force it with your bare hands. Use a hook disgorger to remove it from the fish or cut the line with scissors. A hook left with the fish will eventually loosen out.

Don’t ever go fishing without a buddy or anyone who is experienced enough in fishing. You need to make sure that you have someone looking after you during the whole time you’re fishing because you never know when a help of another person is going to come in handy.

The right fishing pole is necessary for you to be able to catch fish. Poles that are too long will not offer you enough control over the fishing line. Poles that are too short may snap easily when you are trying to reel in a fish. The right pole is usually determined by your height and the types of fish you want to catch. Larger fish will require thicker fishing line and a thicker fishing pole in order to stand the tension placed on the line.

Common types of fishing rods include fly fishing rods, ultra-light fishing rods, carbon fiber rod, spin casting rods, spinning rods, and ice fishing rods. Each of these rods is available online and can be purchased along with other items that will enhance your fishing experience. If you have never used any of these rods, you should first determine which type of fishing you want to and then find a rod that matches it.

Fly rods are smaller and do not have spinners or reels. Because you need to cast your line out and bring it in slowly in order to attract fish, a reel is not necessary. Fly fishing is difficult to master and not for those who want to catch a lot of fish at one time. If you want to learn how to fly fish, you should take lessons from a friend or professional guide who will be able to teach you the correct technique.

Ultra-light fishing rods are used when fishing in lakes, streams, and ponds. They are used to catch fish using a lure, weight, floater, or live bait. These rods are not heavy, but they can be strong when they need to be. Attached to them are smaller reels that are used to pull in fishing line. You should use these rods when you first start fishing.

Carbon fiber rods are heavier and used for ocean fishing. They can withstand the pull of larger fish. When using these rods, you will have to buy thicker fishing line. These rods are used by those who enjoy competing in tournaments and when fishing for larger fish like salmon, marlin, and tuna. If you want to fish in the ocean, you may need to hire a charter boat and go out with a crew who will be able to show you the best fishing spots and assist if you catch anything.

Spinning rods and spin casting rods are used to help fishermen have more control over their fishing pole. Ice fishing poles are used to catch fish that are swimming under the ice. If you are interested in this type of fishing, you will have to travel to cold places where you can fish on frozen lakes and ponds.

There are mainly three different types of reels and knowing the basics of each will be a great help when going to look at reels.

The closed spin cast reel is the most popular type of reel on the market. This is probably because it is also the easiest type of reel to use, which makes it really great for beginners or those that don’t wish to spend a lot of time on their fishing line. This reel keeps the line fully enclosed, causing less tangles in the line. It is also very easy to cast due to the fact that this action is completed simply with the push of a back button. This type of reel is best used when fishing for smaller fish. They are very light and not that expensive, either.

An open face spinning reel is for those that have some experience in fishing and can manage the reel with little trouble. Experienced fishermen seem to prefer these types of reels because they have more control over the fishing line. They are easier to use than bait casters but are still very accurate. The drawback to this type of reel is that they can become tangled easier than closed spin cast reels because they do not line up with the fishing line. When looking at buying them, these types of reels fall right in the middle of the price points of other reels.

Bait casters are the most difficult type of reel to use. However, they are sometimes more preferred by those that spend a lot of time in or on water because they have many advantages for those that can use them effectively. They handle heavy line very well and they are also the most accurate and the easiest to control. They do come with some backlash so a lot of practice is needed when learning to fish with a bait caster. They are also the most expensive type of reel to buy.

Not to mention preserving the fish with pleasing odor. There are ways to properly prepare and maintain the quality just after the catch of the fish into a sumptuous fishmeal. Check out the tips below:

1) As soon as the fish lands avoid any contact with hard surfaces to prevent bruising. It should be washed immediately by hosing or bucket rinsing in order to remove the slime and possible bacteria that cause spoilage. Never use water from close proximity marinas, municipal or industrial discharges. To make sure, always use potable water instead.

2) Simply chill the fish to prevent deterioration in less than an hour. With a little advance planning, proper icing can be accomplished with the use of some relatively cheap equipment. Fish should be stored in coolers and should be well chilled. It should be 3″ deep, thus, covering a pound of fish with pound of ice. Use chlorinated water per quart of water for the final rinsing.

3) Clean the fish as soon as possible. Their tissues are sterile but not their scales, which contains many types of bacteria. When cleaning fish, avoid rough treatment because wounds in the flesh can allow the spread of bacteria. Gutting the fish does not have to be necessarily long. It is wise to cut the belly, as it leaves no blood or viscera in the body. Make sure not to soak cleaned fish fillets in a prolonged freshwater as this could reduce the meat texture and flavor.

4) The eating quality and nutritional value of fish can be maintained up to 5 days if properly cleaned. Washing of the hands before touching the fish is also important. No matter what fish and the cooking technique used, one golden rule is to be followed always. Whether it is whole or not, cook exactly 10 minutes for every inch measured. 15 minutes should be allotted to fish enclosed in foil or sauce baked. Double the time for frozen fish.

Allow extra time if fish will be baked while packed in an aluminum foil and allow extra time for the penetration of the heat. That should be an additional 5 minutes for fresh fish and 10 for frozen. In thawing frozen fish, slowly thaw in the fridge for 24 hours or let the wrapped fish be run under cold water not at room temperature. Do not thaw a fish that’s frozen before cooking as it may make it mushy and dry.

Before going deeper into the technicalities, make sure that a fishing license is secured. To be an amateur fisherman there are basic pieces of fishing equipment needed to complete your exciting journey in the fishing world. Knowing the line type and matching the right rod and reel to the fishing technique is just basic common sense. Match these tools appropriately and expect a more enjoyable experience for a more comfortable fishing. There are several things that causes the reel to turn into a bird’s nest, don’t worry, even experienced fishermen encounter this every now and then.

The main objective is to match the rod, the reel, the line and the lure. These will only cost a newbie around $25 to $40 and they could last for years. The 3 main issues when shopping for a rod are: Guides that are attached to the rod; Grip or handle holds the rod and could come in either cork or foam. They come in different lengths so the comfort to the user must be considered; and the reel seat where the reel is connected.

Dealers make a lot of fishing rods that could either be single or consist of two or more pieces when assembled. The connection is very simple; just connect the male and female ends together to make sure the guides are lined up. This would only last for a minutes. Sometimes, lubricants are needed. When shopping for a rod, slightly bend it to get the feel of it. Again comfort should be considered when using the equipment.

Rods of any type will work. It should be around 6′ long and medium weight. Even a long stick will work. This should be long, straight and flexible so it will not easily break. The most popular rod is Graphite because it is so light yet so strong. Wispy rods should be up to 4m long to be used for long casts in moderate winds.

There are a lot of fishing lines to choose from and it can be very confusing to find the best. It is mostly made of nylon and “monofilament” that comes in spools of different lengths that are called Tests. The larger the fishing line the thicker it is in diameter. Find a piece of a 4lb. or 4 lb. Test that is almost 10′ long for the basic rig.

The basic rule is that all the gears should match. To summarize your fishing kit, it should include other stuff as well: net, stringer, line clippers, fishing knife, first aid box, a pail of bait, sunglasses, fishing hat, and talking about the basics, don’t forget your SNACKS!

The evolution of fishing gear and accessories along with the development of the bass fishing industry brought about the development of various lures specifically used for different fish species.

There are many types or class of lures and they all depend on what type of fish works for them. Many only work for specific types but some cover a wide range of species of fish.

Below are some of the typical lures used for fishing.

Light Standard Casting Lures

For Standard casting lures, they are mostly able to attract a wide range of fish varieties from albacore, bluefish, bonita, oho and crappies. These lures are also excellent for certain species of bass fish and work best when retrieved from water at low to medium speed. They pass through water with undetectably synthetic material.

Their sizes are excellent for lightweight fish and a host of freshwater species. They range from 1/16 oz. to 3 oz.

The hand painted eye is enticing enough to allow schooling of fish. This feature allows for more chances of trapping one of the target fish in the water.

Heavy Standard Casting Lures

Heavy Standard Casting Lures are excellent for quite heavy fish specifically, walleye and bass. While the lightweight lures are used in most circumstances, it was shown that heavy counterparts provide more reliable fishing output.

Moreover, the heavy standard lures are able to catch fish than diamond and light standard casting lures.

Long Casting/Jigging Lures

Perhaps the most popular among the fishing lures are the long, tapered jigging lures. They are perhaps the most commonly used fishing lures among the fishermen in Florida, Mississippi and Louisiana.

Just recently, it was found out that the long casting lures work best for catching trout and pike. They were also found to effectively catch stripers and bluefish. They can catch tuna and walleye in a breeze!

Unlike heavy standard lures, this gear won’t produce good fish-catch output up to 180-200 ft under water but be sure to effectively match your lure color, bait and related accessories to maximize performance.

Deadly Diamond Lures

These lures are one of the smallest with sizes ranging from 1/8 to 1oz. They can seamlessly attract attention among fish and could form a school of fish in a minute!

The reason is it lies on its structural surface formation and cut. The top handle is cut like a diamond and causes the reflection of light striking on its surface. The diamond lures are best for catching bass fish varieties, crappie and stripers although they work on a small range of fish species.
